Shakashaka help

Shakashaka (also known as "Proof of Quilt") is a logic puzzle with simple rules and challenging solutions.

The rules are simple.
Shakashaka is played on a rectangular grid. The grid has both black cells and white cells in it. The objective is to place black triangles in the white cell so that all white areas are rectangular.
- The triangles are right angled and occupy half of the white square divided diagonally.
- You can place triangles only in white cells
- The numbers in the black cells indicate how many triangles are adjacent, vertically and horizontally.
- The white rectangles can be either straight or rotated at 45°

Zooming
Pinch with two fingers to zoom in/out. If you use a mouse you can use the scroll button.

Moving
Tap and drag to move the puzzle. If you use a mouse you can click and drag with the middle (scroll) button.

Marking
You can tap/click individual cell to change its state.

When this mode is selected from the game menu the state of the cell is going from "empty" through each orientation of the triangle to "white" to "empty". If you use the right mouse button the states rotate in the opposite order
Depending on the input mode you have selected this either
- rotate through all triangle orientations for "Rotate on click/tap"
- place a triangle in the clicked corner for "Click/tap in the corner of the cell to place a triangle"
This option lets you mark cells which you know for sure are empty.
This option allows you to clear cells which were filled wrongly.
There are some more options in the advanced menu.

Other helpful tips

  • You can get rid of the address bar and gain extra playing space by dragging the header or the footer quickly upwards so you scroll the page a bit down. It's tricky and you need practice. iOS8+ users - this will be just temporary until you click something in the bottom bar - sad story I know.
  • If you are left handed or just playing with your left hand there is a spacial option in the settings just for you.
  • Try the different helpers in the settings - some will make the puzzle too easy for you, others may automate some trivial tasks.
